Our First Polynesian Inspired Workout
Posted on March 03 2020
This project started last fall, but with the holidays....well, you know how it goes. I had always wanted to do a Hawaiian/Tahitian fusion style workout, but wanted to be careful as to not offend any culture. After consulting with friends in Hawaii I have hopefully achieved that. We decided that using the proper terms (Kaholo, Hela, etc) would be the way to go instead of "making up" different terms for these moves.
This is designed to be a cardio workout - not a Hawaiian / Tahitian dance class. Don't go to Hawaii and request Proud Mary to be played and then do this routine thinking you're doing a Hawaiian dance - it doesn't work that way :-)
The workouts are designed to be fun and different from other cardio workouts that are already available (yes, I'm aware that Hot Hula exists but I think we're different than that format also - they seem to be much more Tahitian based)
My goal is to offer unique, fun workouts without offending anyone and I hope I've succeeded!
Of course we featured our clothing in the workouts - now you can see how they look on "real" people and how they hold up with movement! We also started selling the sarongs that we wore in the workouts.
